Your Perfect Wedding Cake!

So, you want to get a wedding cake, but not just any cake, one that fit perfectly with your venue, your colors, your wedding theme and your own personal style.  How do you get to that design?  At White Rose Bakery it is so important to us that your cake is perfect for you.  We don't want you to pick cake #166 out of an album, we want you to have your cake and this is how we do it:

Our design process starts with your first call to our bakery.  We will need to know the date of your wedding to be sure that we have an opening.  We will need to know the venue for your reception and approximately how many guests you are expecting.  In addition to setting a convenient time for the consultation we will also be reminding you to bring anything and everything that will give us a starting point for your design.  This can include, invitations, save the date cards, dress pictures, color swatches, styles of cake you have liked and anything else you want to include.

At the consultation, after you have samples our yummy cakes, we can start doing some sketching.  Do you like round or square?  A steeper cake or a more traditional spacing?  Do you want fresh flowers, sugar flowers?  Are you looking for a more traditional cake or do you want something more cutting edge?  What design elements do you want on the cake and how would you like to incorporate your colors?  We will take you through each of these questions, giving you different options.  Once we have an idea of the different elements you want to include we will do two or three quick sketches just to get an idea of how the cakes will look.  This gives you the opportunity to pick a cake you've actually seen.  Once the design is decided upon we will do a larger, full color sketch of your cake.  If there are specific design elements then samples will be prepared and we will give you a 4"x6" panel that will look just like the side of your cake.  Once the sketch and samples are approved and the flavors decided upon, we're set.  We will work with your wedding staff to ensure that your cake is displayed at your venue and waiting to take your breath away!

Beautiful Ballrooms!

This weekend I attended the Weddings of the World show at the Airport Sheraton with the Wedding Lounge.  We had a great time (Lounge players always do!) and I experience two of the most beautiful ballrooms that I have ever seen.  The first was an Indian themed room done by Linda Barclay and her amazing staff at Barclay Events.

The room was draped, floor to ceiling in beautiful red fabric and was uplit, they brought in wonderful tables, chairs and a couch, all coordinated.  Every detail was perfect from the beautiful linens and dishes, menu cards done by Sunny at Puddle Jumpin Cards and gorgeous, big bouquets of flowers by Flowers for You.  And of course I brought a red, Indian themed cake complete with a wedding elephant.  This room was so sumptuous, warm and lovely, it made you wish you were having a party!

The second room that just took my breath away was the beautiful Russian themed room done by Viktoria and her wonderfully creative team at Luxury Events by Viktoria.  The entire room was done in white with accents of pink, black and gray and it was amazing.  I have decided that all wedding cakes should be displayed the way this cake was displayed!  I didn't find out who did the flowers for the room but they were beautiful, masses of orchids and roses.  Absolutely breathtaking!

Beautiful Black, White and Silver Wedding Cake

Five tiers, octagonal cake, wrapped with black ribbon

We just received these pictures of the cake we did last May for Melissa and Tyler's beautiful wedding in the amazing Field's Sunken Ballroom at the Portland Art Museum.

Melissa did her entire wedding in black, white and silver with red accents and flowers.  She wanted to use these same colors in her cake but wanted it to be unique.  We took a five tiered octagonal cake and decorated the sides with design elements from her invitations.  To pick up the silver we applied beading to the swirls and the florist topped the cake with deep red peonies that were also included in her bouquet.

The bride was beautiful, the room was beautiful and we think the cake was beautiful!

Roaring Twenties Wedding

We did this cake last month for Jake and Allison's fun Twenties style wedding at the Portland White House.  It was a simple black and white cake on the outside, but inside was the southern groom's favorite, red velvet.  Michael at Stringfield Photography just posted pictures of the wedding to his blog and they are amazing.  Everything was done to perfection by Allison's mom, Jan, right down to the tuxes worn by the ring bearers and she did it all long distance by phone and internet.  Michael's photography is beautiful, take a look and be sure to check out the Portland White House, what a beautiful venue!

Erica & Matt's Wedding

Erica and Matt were married this past August at the First Baptist Church in Portland followed by a beautiful reception at the Heritage Ballroom at the Governor Hotel, one of the most beautiful rooms in the city.  Matt and Erica were such a fun couple, they knew just what they wanted and as you can see from the beautiful pictures by their photographer, Paul Rich, they did an amazing job!  My favorite memory of the day was a visit from Erica's dad while the florist and I were setting up the cake.  He looked nervous, but wanted to be sure that every detail was perfect and to take time to thank the vendors in person.  What a great dad!  Our congratulations to Erica and Matt, thanks for letting us be a part of your lovely wedding!

The best of both worlds!

I met with Jennifer and Sandeep this past summer to come up with a design for their wedding cake.  Sandeep's family came from India and he and Jennifer were incorporating Indian traditions into their planning.  They would be having an Indian wedding ceremony on Friday with Jennifer dressed in a traditional Sari which for weddings are always red.  They then planned a traditional American ceremony and were to be married in the Old Laurelhurst Church on Saturday with their reception to follow at the World Trade Center.

They wanted a cake that would capture the best of both their traditions and this is what we came up with.  A five-tiered white fondant cake with each tier wrapped in it's own Sari style design.  The red fondant was embossed with a design, was applied to the cake, and each wrap was hand painted with edible gold.  After the tiers were painted gold beads were applied.  The cake was setup in the beautiful World Trade Center and served with platters of Indian sweets.

Congratulations Jennifer and Sandeep, what a lovely way to bring the best of both backgrounds to the start of your life together....and isn't that what weddings are all about!
